Company Review…Flipzco

Justin Francisco has been a longtime fixture at Raceway Park racing motocross back in the day. He is involved in a new fashion movement with Flipzco…a lifestyle brand.

From their website:

FlipzCo… is a Lifestyle Brand. We dedicate our time, our money, & our lives to the culture we love!  We live by the word’s “Simple. Urban. This industry is so focused about maken the next dollar instead pushing the scene to higher limit’s. The people behind this brand ain’t just your average teenager’s but we are fully dedicated to the sports we do.

FlipzCo. also distributes our own type of art in the apparel aspect. We aren’t about making money, just giving back to our culture. Art & Music describes the power of our generation. Without the appreciation of those weekend warriors/diehard athlete’s our sports wouldn’t be as enjoyable..

Website Review…PulpMX.com

This week’s website review is Pulpmx.com. This site is the table of contents in the web world of Steve Matthes. Who is Steve Matthes you may ask. Well aside from being Tim Ferry’s biggest fan Matthes is one of the most interesting media guys in the sport today.

From the site you can click on links to all of Steve’s work including his strangely NJ associated weekly podcast show with Kenny Watson, his Bottom Line video show on Transworld MX, his classic commentary of old videotaped races and even some of his writing for Transworld MX magazine.

The one time factory mechanic has a different insight than many other media guys out there and I have always been entertained by his work.

Honda Announces 2011 Motocross Models

American Honda Announces 2011 Off-Road Models and ATVs
Torrance, CA: American Honda Motor Company’s Powersports Division announced to its dealers today an additional release of off-road models and ATVs for the 2011 model year. These Hondas include the CRF450R and CRF250R motocross machines, CRF70F and CRF50F off-road motorcycles, the FourTrax Rancher family of ATVs, and the sporty TRX250X.
“Honda is ramping up its release of 2011 models,” said Powersports Press Manager Bill Savino. “We’re proud to unveil our newest race bikes, the CRF450R and CRF250R motocrossers, plus a wide assortment of Honda off-road machines that have remained extremely popular with recreational riders over the years. With these models for 2011 and more to follow, this is certainly going to be a great year for riding enthusiasts.”
More detailed information and images of Honda’s model line can be found on www.powersports.honda.com or see your local Honda powersports dealer.
- The Class of the Open-Class MX Bikes: Honda CRF450R
Long regarded as the bike of choice in the big-bore motocross division, the 2011 CRF450R incorporates a host of improvements that will help this bike retain its standing as the yardstick by which all others in the class are compared. Various tweaks to the engine tuning broaden the already prodigious powerband—more low-end pull and midrange grunt—while also enhancing throttle response via a new throttle body.
In addition, revised suspension linkage and settings yield improved control, increased ride plushness and enhanced rear-wheel traction. A new Honda Progressive Steering Damper (HPSD) with a larger damper piston (24mm versus 20mm) produces even better tracking traits than before. In addition, the CRF450R now features a newly designed muffler that meets the sound levels of 94 decibels required by some racing organizations in 2011, making it competition-legal right off the showroom floor. All this and more make the 2011 CRF450R a shoo-in to maintain its dominant role among open-class MX bikes. MSRP $8,199. Available in Red beginning October 2010.
- The Award-Winning Honda CRF250R Gets Better Yet in 2011
Despite winning numerous comparison tests and awards in 2010, the CRF250R enters the new season sporting a number of improvements that will help it continue its winning ways. A new Honda Progressive Steering Damper (HPSD) with a larger, 24mm damper piston aids tracking precision, and new suspension settings front and rear help give this stellar-handling machine even better chassis balance for 2011. Changes to engine tuning now give the CRF250R a stronger bottom-end and midrange hit, and this 2011 model features a new muffler that meets sound levels of 94 dB required by some racing organizations. MSRP $7,199. Available in Red beginning October 2010.
- Family-Friendly CRF70F and CRF50F Return in 2011
In a completely different segment within the vast Honda spectrum, the family-friendly CRF70F and CRF50F return to the lineup in 2011. Featuring an automatic clutch, low seat height and a three-speed transmission, the CRF70F has long served as a practically perfect choice for beginning riders. Credit too the torquey 72cc air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine that has grown to near-legendary status for reliability over the years. Likewise, for more than 40 years the CRF50F has introduced legions of riders the world over to the sport of motorcycling. It tips the scales at an unintimidating 110 pounds and the little CRF50F boasts a tough 49cc air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine renown for its durability plus an ultra-low seat height, automatic clutch, three-speed transmission and an inverted fork. Both of these machines represent the fun that turns the dreams of beginning riders into trail-time reality. CRF50F MSRP $1,499; CRF70F $1,899. Both models available in Red beginning October 2010.

Suzuki Announces 2011 Motocross Models

Suzuki is pleased to announce its assault on the motocross segment for 2011 with a new RM-Z250, RM-Z450 and a 2010 RM85. In addition to the launch of these new motocrossers, American Suzuki is also celebrating its 50th anniversary of international racing this summer. “We are excited to reveal our championship-winning 2011 motocross machines, while at the same time we celebrate a half-century of racing,” said Steve Bortolamedi, Senior Communications Manager at American Suzuki. “Our products are truly the result of time spent on racetracks all over the world,” Bortolamedi adds.

For 2011 Suzuki has taken its potent RM-Z250, and have fine-tuned it into an even more capable machine. The 2011 RM-Z has seen numerous updates: it now meets a stricter AMA noise limit (94db) while maintaining smooth engine output; the intake and exhaust timing has been changed for better engine feeling with lower noise output; the exhaust pipe length has been changed for better engine feeling with lower noise; ECU settings have been updated for more linear acceleration and improved over-rev; and the radiator hose routing has been changed for more efficient cooling.

Suzuki has also concentrated on improving operation and overall feeling (primarily in shifting and starting). The 2011 RM-Z250 features improved lubrication on the center of the clutch and counter shaft for better durability and improved clutch feel; an updated transmission (focusing on 3rd and 4th gear) provides improved durability; and the kick starting arm has been redesigned for improved starting. Suzuki has focused on providing easier maintenance features on the 2011 RM-Z250 as well. Updated wiring harness routing and a convenient fuel line cap for regular maintenance are two new features for 2011. The RM-Z250’s 249cc engine utilizes advanced Suzuki fuel injection, and when combined with the twin-spar aluminum frame and class-leading Showa suspension components, you get the perfect weapon for motocross racers worldwide.

For 2011 Suzuki has taken the reigning FIM/AMA Supercross Championship winning RM-Z450, and have fine-tuned it into an even more potent machine. The 2011 RM-Z450 has undergone numerous updates: it also meets a stricter AMA noise limit (94db) while keeping smooth engine output; the compression ration has been increased from 12.2:1 up to 12.5:1 for higher output; intake and exhaust timing has been changed for better engine feeling with lower noise output; and ECU settings have been updated for more linear acceleration and improved over-rev. In addition, Suzuki has also focused on making tuning and maintenance easier on the 2011 RM-Z450; two optional couplers come with the unit to change the EFI setting (richer and leaner), and a convenient fuel line cap is included for regular maintenance.

Suzuki is also pleased to announce the return of the 2010 RM85. The RM85 returns and is ready to carry on with the powerful tradition of racing excellence in the Suzuki RM and RM-Z family. Its two-stroke engine produces smooth power at any rpm, with an emphasis on low- to mid-range performance. Like all Suzuki MX bikes, the RM85 delivers class-leading handling performance, appreciated by experienced racers and rookie riders alike. With its smooth power delivery, loads of mid-range and lightweight handling, The 2010 RM85 is the perfect motocross bike for those that are just learning to race.
